Good News for International Students!
A New Policy was introduced by Govt of Canada on January 8, 2021 to help former International Students who are unable to meet Canadian work experience requirement. This new policy will give another chance to those International Students who are affected by the COVID 19 pandemic and will allow them with an expired or expiring Post-Graduate-Work- Permit (PGWP) to apply for a new Open Work Permit.
This work Permit will be valid for 18 months and will allow them to remain in Canada to seek employment, work and settle in this country. To apply for an Open Work Permit under the New Policy, the following criteria must be met:
• You must have PGWP that expired on or after January 30, 2020 or
• PGWP that expires in 4 months or less from the date of application and
• You are already in Canada.
• You need to have a valid temporary status or be applying to restore status.
The application process will be open from January 27, 2021.
The Government of Canada recognizes that the pandemic has put International Students at a disadvantage due to the weakened labor market. Many recent graduates have been laid off. For that reason, it has becoming difficult for them to meet the Canadian Work experience requirements of the PGWP.
